Have an Ideal Holiday in the Costa Brava

David Henry

Is the Costa Brava a place to go if youre young, free and single and looking for a place to sunbathe all day and party all night? Oh yes! Is the Costa Brava the place to go if you want to enjoy life at a slower pace than some other Spanish destinations offer? The answer there would also be yes! The reason for this is that Costa Brava has managed to create two distinct tourist profiles which means its a destination that everyone will be happy with! With approximately 180km of North Eastern Spanish coastline to explore, Costa Brava has a warm climate that stops short of being overwhelmingly hot.

Costa Brava hotels reflect the diverse difference between the two groups of tourists. There are hotels in Costa Brava that cater more towards the younger (and young a heart) tourists who are there simply for a good time, then there are Costa Brava hotels that are more upmarket and have a different demographic in mind. The Costa Brava hotels catering for the younger set offer a more budget friendly and basic accommodation than the more exclusive spa hotels. If staying in any Costa Brava hotels doesnt appeal you could think about staying in a Costa Brava apartment. Although a hotel environment can give you a good base for all your essential accommodation needs, an apartment in Costa Brava will give you more privacy and less restrictions. It can also save you money if youre going in a group.

There are many places you can visit on your holiday to Costa Brava. Roses, a resort near to the French border blends Spanish culture with French to offer a unique mix of the two. Figueres, situated close to Roses, is the artist Salvador Dalis birthplace. He and his wife designed the Teatre-Museu Gala Salvador Dali which you can see there. You can escape the main tourist traps by visiting Calella, located close to Barcelona ” here you can have a more authentic look at Spanish life. If youre not much into cultural sightseeing, Javea is a good place to visit as theres plenty to do there. Playa de Arenal is a beautiful beach there with plenty of space ” as long as its not too crowded with people (which can happen in High Season). This area isnt cheap so if youre on a strict budget you might like to visit Denia instead ” and here you can even get the ferry across to Mallorca and Ibiza.

For those interested in more contemporary tourist attractions, Javea is a good choice with lots to do, both in terms of exploring and relaxing. The beach, Playa de Arenal is gorgeous, with pristine sand and lots of space, however it can become crowded in high summer, as the port in Javea, is still a functioning one rather than a playboy type. The area is very expensive, so for a more chilled, laid back and less expensive trip you may want to consider Denia, with its ferry links to Ibiza and Mallorca. Although comparatively expensive next to other areas it does feel more like youre getting value for money, whilst retaining a wide variety of activities, both on and off beach.

Alicante is a place you must visit if you dont mind travelling further afield for your excursions. Here youll find many beach-based activities to enjoy, as well as castles and cathedrals to explore. There are also a number of parks for nature lovers to enjoy here.
